This Privacy Policy explains what data Readlume (“we”) collects when you use the Readlume website and mobile apps (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have — including how to delete your account and data at any time.
1. Data we collect
- Account data. Your email address, and — if you use Sign in with Apple — the name and email Apple shares with you. Apple’s “Hide My Email” gives us only a private relay address; we never receive your real one.
- Content you provide. Books and documents you upload, and text you select to translate, look up, or ask about. Your uploaded library is private to your account.
- Reading & learning data. Reading position, bookmarks, highlights, notes, flashcards, quiz results, and similar activity you create in the app.
- Diagnostics & usage. Aggregate, privacy-preserving performance and usage metrics (via Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights) to keep the Service fast and reliable.
2. Processing by third-party AI providers
To produce translations, text-to-speech audio, definitions, and tutor answers, the specific text you choose to translate or ask about is sent to third-party AI processors: DeepSeek (translation and language AI), Google (OCR and text-to-speech), and ElevenLabs (text-to-speech). These providers process the submitted text to return a result. In the app you are asked to consent before this sharing occurs. We do not send your full library to these providers — only the passage you act on.
3. How we use your data
We use your data solely to provide and improve the Service: to authenticate you, store and render your library, generate translations and study material, sync your progress across your devices, and keep the Service secure. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for cross-app advertising or tracking.
4. Storage & security
Your data is stored with our infrastructure provider Supabase (Postgres database and file storage) and protected by row-level security so each account can access only its own data. On your device, authentication tokens are stored in the system Keychain, and all network traffic uses encrypted HTTPS.
5. Deleting your account and data
You can permanently delete your account from within the app (Profile → Delete Account) or on the web. Deletion is irreversible and removes your account and its associated data — including uploaded files, reading data, annotations, flashcards, and study history. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke the Sign in with Apple token associated with your account.
6. Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your associated data. Limited records may be retained where required for legal, security, or anti-abuse purposes (for example, audit logs with your identity removed).
7. Children
Readlume is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can exercise deletion directly in the app; for other requests, contact us.
9. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above; continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
