Welcome to Readlume. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Readlume website, applications, and services (the “Service”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. What Readlume is
Readlume is a tool for reading, translating, annotating, and studying books and other texts that you legally own or have the right to use. You bring your own content; Readlume helps you read and learn from it. Readlume is not a bookstore, a library, or a distributor of copyrighted works.
The Service is operated by Oleh Lesnenko, an individual (sole trader) trading as “Readlume”.
2. Your content and your responsibilities
You retain ownership of the files you upload. You grant Readlume a limited licence to store and process your content solely to provide the Service to you (for example, to render pages, generate translations, and sync your reading position across your devices).
You represent and warrant that you have the right to upload and use every file you add to Readlume — for example, because it is in the public domain, you purchased it, or you otherwise hold the necessary rights. Do not upload content you are not authorised to use.
3. Sharing — translations and notes, never the original text
Where Readlume lets you share, you share only the data Readlume generates with you— AI translations, glossaries, character notes, highlights, flashcards, and reading progress. Readlume does not transmit the original copyrighted text of a book to anyone else. A person you share with must already have their own legal copy of the underlying work to view it alongside your shared data. Public-domain works imported by Readlume’s administrators are the only full-text content that may be shared openly.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- upload, share, or distribute content you do not have the right to use;
- circumvent technical protection measures (DRM) on any work;
- infringe the intellectual-property or privacy rights of others;
- harass, abuse, or harm other users, or post unlawful, hateful, or deceptive content;
- attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the Service.
5. AI-generated output
Translations, summaries, definitions, quizzes, and other AI-generated output are produced by automated systems and may contain errors or omissions. They are provided for learning and convenience and are not a substitute for a professional or authoritative translation.
6. Copyright and takedowns
Readlume respects intellectual-property rights and responds to valid notices of claimed infringement. If you believe content on the Service infringes your copyright, see our DMCA / Copyright Policy. We maintain and enforce a repeat-infringer policy and may suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly infringe.
7. Administrator access
Readlume administrators may access uploaded content for the limited purposes of platform moderation, copyright compliance, technical debugging, quality assurance, and safety. Such access is logged and auditable. We treat your library as private and access it only when one of these purposes requires it.
8. Accounts, plans, and changes
You are responsible for your account and for keeping your credentials secure. Some features may be offered under paid plans; current plans and prices are listed on our pricing page and presented at the point of purchase. Paid plans are sold through Paddle, our merchant of record, and are covered by our Refund Policy (a 30-day money-back guarantee). We may update, suspend, or discontinue features, and may revise these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above; continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Readlume is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
